Employment Initiative

We represent a group of skilled and eager workers who are dedicated to attaining real work for real pay.  At Kamloops Society for Community Living we are dedicated to helping people attain their employment goals.  We believe that if you want to work, then by all means, you should work.  We also believe that there is a job out there for everybody.  Our goal is to help create employment opportunities that benefit both the employee and the employer.  We aim to create lasting relationships that foster both economic and social development in our community.

How we can help

We can provide job coaching and on the job support to help your new employee master the skills that they need to be successful in your workplace.

We will provide support to new
employers to ensure a good fit for both parties.

We can assist with creative and
effective strategies to maximize the success of your new employee.

We can help you discover what needs of your business are going un-met, and we can help you find the right person to meet them.

You will receive professional support for you and your new employee for as long as needed.

Ongoing support and follow up will be negotiated to ensure consistency and success.

Benefits to your business

Have skilled and reliable help to complete tasks that often get left
undone at the end of the day. Or, find someone to do the little tasks that just don’t get done.

Increase the reach of your business by creating a diverse work place.

People with disabilities are a
 growing consumer market who
possess the ability to influence the spending power of friends, family, neighbors, and acquaintances.

Create a workforce that reflects your
customer base

Create a more stable work force.  Find permanent employees for positions that are transitory, or
 difficult to fill.

Free up valuable time for you and your staff to concentrate on your jobs.

Did you know?...

In Canada, there are 109, 000 working aged people with developmental

disabilities.

This is between 1-3% of Canada’s

population, and a largely un-tapped
labor source.

People with developmental disabilities are equivalent in performance, safety, and job-attendance to their non-disabled counterparts.

Statistics report that people with
developmental disabilities have .

significantly lower rates of turnover, fewer sick days, and a higher sense of job satisfaction than their non-disabled counterparts.

A common belief is that people with disabilities are not able to work, or do not want to work.  This is misconception.  People with disabilities want to reap the benefits of paid employment too.

People with disabilities often do not require a lot in the way of workplace adaptations.  Adaptations that are made often increase productivity for everyone.
